The company developed the first steam crane in 1851, before the first electric crane in 1892-3. A few cranes produced by the company survive around the world, several of which are listed.

Bath was originally founded as a spa resort by the Romans in AD 43 and has always had a large part of its economy dependant on tourism and leisure. In 1987 the city became a World Heritage Site and has many museums, theatres and cultural venues that act as major attractions for tourist activity. Other industries which are revenue winners for the area include a large service sector, information and communications technology and creative industries.
The main employers of the city include the National Health Service and the Ministry of Defence. Bath is a national publishing centre and is home to Future Publishing along with other major company headquarters. Highly accessible from surrounding areas due to its proximity to the M4 motorway and rail network, Bath is an excellent site for offices.
