For years, Ellesmere Port has benefited from its strategic location in the south of the Wirral Peninsula, right on the Manchester Ship Canal and near the intersection between two major motorways (the M53 and M56). High speed trains link Ellesmere Port with Liverpool and London, and the town is within a 30-minute drive from two large international airports (Liverpool and Manchester), which serve key business destinations in the UK and abroad.

The local economy is predominantly oriented towards occupations in the service sector, as there are more than 15 million consumers within a 30-minute drive of Ellesmere Port, which makes this Cheshire town a strategic hub for retail and professional services.
