Farringdon is located within the London Borough of Islington. The name has been used to describe the area since at least the 13th century. It is home to the St. Bartholomew's Hospital and Smithfield Market, one of London's oldest markets. Chancery Lane, which is dominated by legal, consulting and ancillary firms, is also found within Farrington.
