  • An important percentage of employees (15.1 per cent) with skills in professions related to the knowledge economy
  • Average three-year business survival rates of nearly 60 per cent
  • One-year business survival rates average 91.5 per cent in Kent, with the highest survival levels being present in Canterbury, Swale, Dover, Sevenoaks, and Thanet
  • An annual increase of 2.6 per cent in the number of new businesses registered in the county

A recent business demographic survey also revealed that Kent has experienced a reduction in the number of business deaths (which are down to 2.7 per cent as opposed the national average of 6.1 per cent). In terms of business stock, the largest clusters are in Ashford (5,400), Maidstone (6,800), Sevenoaks (6,700), Canterbury (5,200), Dartford (3,600), Dover (3,300), and Tunbridge Wells (6,400). Business birth rates are at their highest in Gravesham, Canterbury, Thanet, and Tunbridge Wells.

In the near future, significant growth is anticipated in sectors as diverse as sales, manufacturing, finance, logistics, and human resources.
