The county of Lincolnshire is centrally located between Yorkshire, Sheffield, and Leicester. Although Lincolnshire is mostly a rural area, the county has a well developed economy, good road links with the rest of the UK via the A1 and A46 roads, and regular train services to large cities like Manchester, London, and Liverpool. The county also boasts a highly developed network of ports and logistics hubs, including the shipping ports of Humber, Wash, Grimsby, and Immingham, as well as a large freight hub at Humberside airport. As a result, logistics, shipping, distribution, and export-related activities are important industry sectors within the Greater Lincolnshire area. This sector employs more than 18,000 people and its annual revenues exceed £700 million.

Tourism is another important generator of economic activity in Lincolnshire, and particularly in the coastal areas. Seaside resorts like Skegness, Mablethorpe, Sutton-on-Sea, and Cleethorpes are home to thousands of leisure, hospitality, and entertainment businesses, providing jobs to nearly 40,000 people and generating £1 billion a year. Recently, tourism-related business opportunities have increased exponentially in other parts of the county, most notably in Lincoln. Here, the visitor economy grew by 5 per cent between 2014 and 2015 alone, with sub-sectors like accommodation experiencing even higher growth rates. In North East Lincolnshire, this sector is helping keep the local economy alive, along with retail. This part of the county has some of the most encouraging growth potential indicators of the region, as well as the necessary infrastructure to support further development. Among the key infrastructure developments we can highlight the training centre at the Grimsby Institute and the new office developments in Cartergate, which once complete will add 24,000 square feet of Class A office space to the county's stock.

Agri-food businesses have numerous opportunities in Lincolnshire, and more than 500 companies are already based in the area. This figure amounts to one of Europe's highest concentrations of such businesses, and the impact of this industry can hardly be underestimated considering that Lincolnshire's agri-food companies produce or process more than 12 per cent of the UK's food. The local agri-food sector benefits from the existence of training and research centres (such as the National Centre for Food Manufacturing) and from strong exports links with European clients, thanks to a vast and far-reaching logistics network.

The renewable energy sector is set to offer an exciting range of opportunities in the near future. The potential for growth of this sector is untapped, as it is estimated that nearly 60 per cent of the EU market is within 12 hours of Lincolnshire. More than £450 million have been invested in the creation of the Able Marine Energy Park, which has the potential of creating 10,000 jobs in offshore energy jobs. The Humber Enterprise Zone is the UK's largest facility of its kind and also accommodates the needs of businesses engaged in energy production and low carbon activities. The zone offers relocation benefits like discounted business rates, allowances on the costs of equipment and machinery, and a range of business loan funds.
