Local Area Info

The market town of Rugby in Warwickshire is often credited as being the birthplace of rugby. Rugby sits on the banks of the River Avon, 13 miles east of Coventry.

Much of Rugby's economy is based on industry. The engineering and cement making sectors are major employers, including Rolls-Royce and Rugby Cement. The area is also the site of gas and steam turbines operated by the General Electric Company (GE) and Associated Electrical Industries (AEI). Warehousing and distribution have also become major employers with the arrival of several large industrial parks since the 1980s.

Rugby is located close to the M1, M6 and M45 motorways, offering convenient access to communities across the United Kingdom. Rail services link the town with London, Birmingham, Birmingham International Airport, and communities throughout the North West.
