The town of Farnborough, in Hampshire, has a population of 50,000 and is part of the larger Aldershot Urban Area. Farnborough's economy has enjoyed a period of growth even in the middle of the financial crisis, and currently has high rates of entrepreneurship and business development opportunities. The aerospace industry is one of the main sources of employment in town, and some large corporations like BAE Systems have offices at Farnborough's Aerospace Centre and Business Park. Other key employers are Nokia, AON Consulting, Getronics, and Thomson Directories.

The town is the home of the Farnborough Airshow, a major international aerospace industry trade fair. Farnborough is also the base for the Air Accidents Investigation Branch and the Farnborough Aerodrome, the site of Britain's first powered flight in 1908. Several technology and aerospace firms are based at two key business parks in Farnborough, including the Farnborough Aerospace Centre. One of the centre's main tenants is BAE Systems. The town is also home to IQ Farnborough, a new business development with housing and an aviation library.

There are three train stations serving Farnborough. These provide transport links with Aldershot, London Waterloo, Basingstoke, Southampton, Woking, Reading, Gatwick airport, and Guildford. Farnborough's location on the M3 offers easy access to Surrey and other parts of Hampshire.
